This childhood summertime

Back when days were young

And time was cheap.

With endless days to spend

On timeless tasks beneath the summer sun.

It was hard enough to keep

Your hands free of sap, shoes free of dirt.

Eyes closed midst cold nights

And bottoms still in bended church

And yet now, somehow, the opposite is true,

As I have grown into a full blown,

Sleep loving, adult.

Who has forgotten how to play

without care or concern

Who has forgotten good found

Inherent value of dirt

Old shoes, and looking back
